Lost wallet after phone reset

Tue Sep 05, 2017 7:15 pm

Hi
I lost my wallet after an iPhone format
I installed another wallet
I used the 12 world passphrase to import my wallet
But the reply was the phrase is invalid
What can I do?
Is keeping the 12 word passphrase enough for the wallet back up or more steps are needed?
Thank you

The 12 words are enough, maybe you make mistakes when you type your words, check here how to correctly type your words technical-support/network-error-when-se ... tml#p90737

Thank you
There was one capital.
But it still does not work
Should I use the same app for restore?
Should the back up and restore happen at the same service or web site?

Ok what wallet did you originally have (the one you have the seed to) and what wallet are you tying to restore this into?

When you say there was one "capital" do you mean capital letter in the seed? (as far as i know you will never get a seed with a capital letter in it)

The first letter of the sentence was capital, I corrected that.
The question is:
the 12 letter phrase is good for recovery among different wallets or not?
I think the original wallet was bread and the other wallet in which the original passpase did not work was the bicoin.com

Its bip39 Mnemonic, you can use it in electrum, coinomi and few other wallets.

i think the 12 letter phrase is good for recovery, breadwallet and bitcoin.com wallet use different derivations paths you can not directly import your breadwallet seed into bitcoin.com wallet..

So recovery phrase is only good for the same wallet
This means that, If that wallet site shuts down, you lose your bitcoins.

No, bitcoins can be lost only if you lost your seed, if you have your seed safe stored you can access to your bitcoins even if the wallet site shutdown..

(And maybe they have other differences too)

The recovery seed and private keys is what makes bitcoin different to fiat money and banks.

As people in many countries have experienced if the bank they have their savings in goes out of business more often than not they lose all their money. With bitcoin it's different because as long as you have your seed (master private key) you will always be able to recover your bitcoins.

As far as i am aware you should be able to import your 12 word backup seed into most others wallet, most wallets use the same standards BIP39/32/44 nowadays but there are a couple that still that don't.

After a quick search it look like Breadwallet only follows BIP39 and not BIP44, so the word list isn't directly compatible with the BIP44 wallets, you will have to find another wallet that either uses BIP39 or 39/44.
You shouldn't have any problems backing up your Breadwallet seed into the Bitcoin.com wallet, it is a fork of the Copay wallet and that has Mnemonic (BIP39) support for wallet backups.

Other than the 12 words, and find a compatible wallet to import, is there any other details that I should watch out, so that bit coins are not lost, from my ignorance?
