Roger Ver discussion/debate with Johnny of Blockstream at Anarchapulco

Wed Mar 01, 2017 7:07 pm

I would encourage everyone to listen to this discussion/debate, as I believe it does really encapsulate most of the discussion and talking points that happens around the net. Also, there's a debate on the second half with someone named Jake, a bitcoin.com employee

I linked it here at almost 5 minute mark so you don't have to skip to the actual start of the dicussion: https://youtu.be/JarEszFY1WY?t=4m54s

My words to Roger:

Roger, much respect to you... the network, companies, and users really need your help to build support for SegWit.

You say you want want zero-conf payments. So do I, and SegWit helps with this.

You say you love lightning, why not help get SegWit activated to make Lightning work most simply and effectively?

You want to scale the level of on-chain transactions, SegWit helps with this dramatically (as Johnny said ~130%) and has the potential with schnorr signature aggregation to improve both privacy/fungibility as well as scaling hundreds of inputs into one.

sorry man , but this thread looks like just a sort of copy paste of this one : post48848.html#p48813

I don't really see the interest to open some threads on subjects wich are already opens and discussed elsewhere ...

regards

These are two completely different debates. Did you even check?

Not a problem! I think this debate is actually much better than the previous between Roger and Tone, as it really gets to the core of why Bitcoin Core wants a backwards compatible update to help scale bitcoin and fix many bugs to in Bitcoin (SegWit). The discussion is especially important when we consider that the manufacturers of bitcoin mining equipment (only 4 of them) could abuse their power if they were to obtain more control of the protocol. Remember, they could build large blocks and basically shut out smaller miners and mining pools.

I personally think this debate is a lot better than that one between Roger and Tone. Nicely done buddy!

I also enjoyed the debate. Both sides did a great job representing their positions and why they feel the way they do. It would be nice however if these debates had a miner's perspective accurately represented. Not hearing a discussion about an emerging fee market in this debate was disappointing. Although I only watched the first ~45 minutes, so perhaps that was a result of Roger running out of time.

Yeah, this is a great point. I would also like to hear from more miners and have them be involved in the discussion. It is annoying that the biggest miners and mining pools seem to be relatively silent (at least in English circles).

That said, I think miners are more educated and getting much more educated quickly, than in the past.
