Hi,
I've got a bitcoinwallet.com wallet since yesterday.
Today I bought bitcoin at bitrush.nl and wanted to send it to my bitcoinwallet.com wallet.
The following happens: when I copy/paste my walletnr. the code pasted is different from the one I copy.
Because of this I sent money to this other account, which is a blockchain account!
Am I missing something here or is the money lost? I'm registered at bitcoinwallet and how is it possible when I copy the code a different code is pasted?
I contacted support and am awaiting their reply.
Kind regards.
Hi DavidWillaert,
If the Bitcoin address that you paste is different from the one you copy then the most likely scenario is that your computer is infected with a virus / malware. There are known pieces of malware that change the Bitcoin address copied to your clipboard to a similar looking address, and when you hit 'paste', you paste the altered address. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible so there is no way to recover the funds once you hit send.
When sending to any Bitcoin address, please
always check the first 4 characters, middle 4 characters and last 4 characters of the address to ensure that you are sending to the correct address. This low-tech solution will prevent you from sending your bitcoins to the wrong address even if your machine is infected with malware.
The only advice I can give you now is that I
strongly recommend running multiple virus & malware scans with a multitude of virus & malware scanners to clean your system.
Unfortunately in this situation neither bitcoinwallet.com nor bitrush.nl are likely to be able to assist you as it is an individual's responsibility to keep their machine secure and free of malware.
