It was the biggest I had ever seen too. If I'm not mistaken it was up over 70K transactions backlogged at the peak.Yesterday was the largest i had seen the mempool for a long time now, at this time yesterday there was about 35mb of unconfirmed transactions, just looked now and we are back below 5mb.
I don't believe so. It appears to be closely tied to the price spike. Many people wanted to buy and sell, causing a huge amount of volume.I am currently of the opinion that it could be a calculated move to add stress to the network by those who wish to increase the block size.

Bitcoin Unlimited will help alleviate the congestion once it is activated.I think that they should resolve this and find a solution to kill these pending transaction
