Yesterday was the largest i had seen the mempool for a long time now, at this time yesterday there was about 35mb of unconfirmed transactions, just looked now and we are back below 5mb.

Yesterday was the largest i had seen the mempool for a long time now, at this time yesterday there was about 35mb of unconfirmed transactions, just looked now and we are back below 5mb.
It was the biggest I had ever seen too. If I'm not mistaken it was up over 70K transactions backlogged at the peak.

I am currently of the opinion that it could be a calculated move to add stress to the network by those who wish to increase the block size.

I don't believe so. It appears to be closely tied to the price spike. Many people wanted to buy and sell, causing a huge amount of volume.

You cant tie it to a price spike because these jumps could be the half as high with the same transaction queue.

That was weird all of a sudden, yes the price went up some people may have sold or moved coins in preparation for a jump higher...
However it seems to have cooled down now.

That's pretty bad, it's probably going to push fees up if you want tx's confirmed quick. It's not quite as bad as Black Friday was though.
