Submitting to censorship is to enter the seductive world of 'The Giver': the world where there are no bad words and no bad deeds. But it is also the world where choice has been taken away and reality distorted. And that is the most dangerous world of all.

Agreed, nice to see some movement outside of bitcointalk. Will be very beneficial to the industry :)

It is time to fork away from Bitcointalk (my home for the past 4+ years) and /r/bitcoin. Free discussion must thrive.

Thank you all for being the pioneers on this new forum.

Do any of you have ideas on what we can do to make sure we get more traction?

I posted the one idea here: the-forum/making-this-forum-a-success-a ... -t178.html
but would like to hear more.

Some type of forum constitution with guidelines on how the community can self govern would help. Who benefits from ad revenue? Perhaps if the community knew the content and work they contribute went to raising bitcoins for bitcoin projects some might be more motivated to contribute useful content. Is all forum content CC licensed?

I agree that a forum constitution would be very worth while.
For the first month or so, I would enjoy seeing some discussion on exactly what that constitution should be.

Do you have any ideas for a starting point?

I'm fine with all the forum content being CC licensed.
I think the forum revenue will be used to pay the team that is working on the forum, and the rest of the bitcoin.com website.

So far, that revenue is $0, but I am happy to hear suggestions on how people would like to see future revenue used.

AMAs... Has worked well for Reddit obviously, and also Zapchain more recently.

Great idea.

Who should we ask to do the AMAs?

Some people who I think would be likely to help with this are:

Myself
Mike Hearn
Gavin Andresen
Erik Voorhees
Andreas Antonopolous
Charlie Shrem via the prison email system.
Barry Silbert (Secondmarket / Bitcoin Investment Trust)
Wences Casares (Xapo)
Dan Moorhead (Pantera Capital)

Who else?

Is there someone on this forum already who would be willing to be the PR guy and front man to help organize this?

AMAs with these kind of bitcoin people would be amazing. unfortunatley i dont have the skills to organize this.

also: good to have this alternative forum! hopefully this will be a good new source for (free) debating!

edit:

of course: Andreas Antonopoulos :)

Wences Casares would be cool too.

Another possibility would be to host a formal debate in the forums. Come up with the rules and have a group pick a winner based on rules. Could be a debate on block size and perhaps quite a few will follow the discussion driving more to the forums?

I'm pretty sure I can get some of these people to agree to do it. In fact, I just emailed Charlie Shrem to see when he can be available to it. I can relay the messages from the forum back and forth with Charlie in close to real time via the prison email system.

I'll just need some help in advance to get the word out that Charlie will be doing this. (Assuming he is allowed to)

Good list. Agree that Wences would also be good to try and get as well. Maybe Barry Silbert too?

And I like the idea upthread about hosting debates. It'd be cool to have a debate series that kinda gets back more towards the fundamentals of why bitcoin is fascinating. Maybe I spend too much time on twitter, but as the ecosystem has developed, the discussion around bitcoin has gotten muddled, it seems to me. The core aspects of bitcoin being *ideal money*, a superset of gold, and ideas like separation of money and state are taking a back seat, but those are the truly *exciting* aspects of bitcoin.

Roger, I think you and Erik specifically did a great job of crystallizing these ideas for people in 2011/12.

Uhh, no. David Seaman declared bitcoin as "failed" in Jan 2015 when the price dropped under $300. His affinity for Bitcoin is highly correlated with price action. The first batch of AMAs needs to be high-caliber people.

excuse me?

how is someone that RT sought to interview (and did) not high caliber?

and how can we forget his campaign to Free Paris?!

and one must have affinity for price action if one wants to profit and maximize holdings. the world does need market makers, just ask my ol' pal Mr. Rothschild.

Anyways I didn't come to nitpick, I just really think he is worthwhile in reaching out to. There are my 2 Satoshi.
