Hi,hello
Electrum is not a bad choice but that wallet is not very newbie friendly.
try out Copay - i guess you will have less problems with that one.

A deterministic wallet is a system of deriving keys from a single starting point known as a seed. The seed allows a user to easily back up and restore a wallet without needing any other information and can in some cases allow the creation of public addresses without the knowledge of the private key.
I guess some people just don't want to download the whole blockchain.why not just use the core wallet ?
there is nothing wrong with it but it is not userfriendly. start with an easy wallet, after that, you can learn more and run a full node.why not just use the core wallet ?
The Core wallet supports a bad network, do not use it.there is nothing wrong with it but it is not userfriendly. start with an easy wallet, after that, you can learn more and run a full node.why not just use the core wallet ?
for large amounts, buy a hardware wallet.

I'm new to bitcoin and trying to set up an account, but I'm not exactly sure how. I've downloaded Electrum but in the installer it's asking for a seed. How do I get that seed? And how to I register to make an account?
Thanks
Coinbase Web Wallet might be helpful for members who still new in bitcoin and start their own journey.I think for beginner its better to start with a friendly web wallet like coinbase or blockchain, using electrum for starter is going to make you confuse, and you will be easier to do transaction later using web wallet
