Help w/ Electrum please

Mon Jun 13, 2016 9:54 pm

New to bitcoin. I'll keep this as short as possible. A vendor gave me an address to pay him, I did. A refund was issued to that same address to which I paid him. I can see it on the blockchain. How do I go about receiving it in Electrum? I generate a recieve address and then what? Add the blockchain address for the description?

A refund was issued to that same address to which I paid him.
Did you mean to write "from which I paid him"? If the bitcoins that you paid him with came exclusively from your Electrum wallet, and if the refund is sent to one of the input addresses in the payment transaction, then Electrum should see the refund transaction because the bitcoins would be sent to an address in your wallet.

Can you give the txid of your payment transaction? If not, can you paste the address that you sent to? We might be able to find the relevant transactions in a block explorer.

I'll do my best to explain better. The vendor gave me an address that I paid him at. We decided on a refund. This is the blockchain info. https://blockchain.info/address/15mrEDi ... fHiaeSSysV The 0.05997 BTC is my refund. He gave me a link to this refund which is just the link to the same blockchain address I just provided. Did it go diredtly to my Electrum? It doesnt show it in my balance. I tried making request for payment to that blockchain address. I am posting image for you to hopefully better understand.

Whoever owns address 15mrEDiTGaTUUbHwbc1HJHtUfHiaeSSysV has the money.
It sounds like that is the address for the person you paid, so they currently have the refund money as well.

Yes, thats what I thought. They say they have released it though. In Elektrum it shows as paid, but I do not have that amount in my wallet.

No body in the entire world, except for the owner of that address can send the money from that address.
You will have to ask the owner of that address to send the money to wherever you instruct them to.

Thank you for confirming what I thought was right all along. It's obvious the vendor has lied and not released the BTC . Just needed to hear it from someone knowledgeable in BTC. Thanks again

But, if I may chip in, the transaction to this address https://blockchain.info/address/15mrEDi ... fHiaeSSysV is showing in the requests window in the above picture, which means that a request must have been created in the same electrum wallet and you can only make requests with the address that is in the Electrum wallet?

Yes, I wasn't sure how to proceed so I made a request to the blockchain addy thinking it would prompt vendor to release funds? It just sits there pending and my wallet has not changed.

So this address 15mrEDiTGaTUUbHwbc1HJHtUfHiaeSSysV was given to you by the vendor? How did you create a payment request with it in your electrum wallet?

Okay, I see what the problem is now, you created a request with the address 1B5iax one, which is your receiving address but in description you typed the other address 15mrEDiTGaTUUbHwbc1HJHtUfHiaeSSysV , which seems to be your vendor's address and he sent the money there. So technically he never returned money to you but transferred to their other address and duped you into thinking that it is in your electrum, when it is not.

This is just me making an attempt to get my funds back. I thought I had at least enough basic knowledge to make a payment with BTC , which I did, but I was being lied to by a vendor about sending me a refund. I thought with my limited knowledge I was doing something wrong, but it's the vendor trying to scam me.
