xtnodes.com question

Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:36 am

I'm looking at the xtnodes.com website, which does a wonderful job of monitoring the bitcoin blockchain (and bitcoin testnet blockchain) for miner support in favor of BIP101.

When checking the stats for the testnet, I notice that there are non-BIP101 blocks being mined in the chain that, a few links up, contains >1 MB BIP101 block. A non BIP101 client should have rejected this chain, and should have been working on a fork chain instead. What does this mean?

My guess is that someone is marking their blocks as non-BIP101 while at the same time supporting it. If they were on a sidechain, we'd not see the non-BIP101 block in a BIP101 chain.

Is my assumption correct here?

There can be no fork until Jan 11 2016 at the earliest. Until that time it makes no difference what client is used. Block Size Votes is a more complete reference than xtnodes.

Hi arnoudk,

Thanks, I'm glad you find my XTnodes.com website of use.

The XT TestNet is mining blocks of all sizes-- blocks over 1mb and under 1mb. Just because it's under 1mb doesn't mean it's a "non-BIP101 block". Bitcoin XT can mine blocks of all sizes. If I am misunderstanding your question, please clarify.

Basically, once BIP101 was activated on the TestNet, blocks afterward can be any size from 0mb up to 8mb.

In the section "Latest 1000 Testnet Blocks", there is a legend for "BIP 101 block with size > 1 MB", "BIP 101 block with size <= 1 MB" and "standard block".

When I look at this overview now, all I see are BIP101 blocks, some <= 1 MB, some > 1 MB. When I posted this message, I also saw "standard block" grey colors inbetween the two shades of red. I didn't make a screenshot though ;)
