As a left liberal, I cannot understand how any conservative would oppose gay marriage. Marriage is an inherently conservative institution.

Marriages are marriages irrespective of whether they are between what couples. As marriage is defined in religion so, in many countries, you can enter a same sex marriage as of 2013.
