requested BCH payout but received BTC and how to get it?

Sat Jun 16, 2018 9:35 pm

I am new to this forum and am a beginner so bear with me here. I have a situation that I tried to google and briefly search on here but seems like no exact same situation or that I'm not searching correctly, here goes:

I have a Bitcoin Wallet created last week on my Windows desktop on computer. I backed it up and learned how to add that same wallet to my iPhone (for both BCH and BTC wallets and deleted the ones that my iPhone created).

I set up a Bitcoin Wallet because I wanted to cash out my funds from an online sportsbook site.

My steps to do this was:

1.) from my Bitcoin Wallet, I pressed on my BCH Wallet and pressed on Receive button.
2.) I see my receive address... initially tried the Cash Address, but my sportsbook didn't accept the longer characters so I read into it and seemed like Legacy was the one to use anyway.
3.) I requested cash out to my Legacy BCH address.
4.) My sportsbook site sent out payment (and Legacy address was apparently just fine)
5.) I didn't get it and after 5-6 days of back and forth, they realized *and said it was me* that had requested a BTC payout (?) on their site (and that it was my responsibility to check which platform... my bad, I guess). They shared me a link to a blockchain of the Legacy address I provided to confirm that it was paid out and I can see the funds (fluctuating amount but yes, my funds are out there).
6.) in my Bitcoin Wallet, I do have a BTC wallet, but to receive funds, it generates a new value and I actually need to use the BCH Legacy address to put in my BTC wallet, how do I do that?

I tried to use "Scan" (on my phone) the QR code to (attempt to?) receive funds from the blockchain link displayed on my web browser but all it did was to display the Legacy address (correct one) and ask me if I want to:

a.) add as a contact
b.) send payment to this address
c.) copy to clipboard

I feel like I am missing a huge step somewhere with this colossal mistake that I apparently made... side question: what I'm confused about is that I belatedly realized that the Legacy address works on both platforms (BCH/BTC) but I can't get the funds into my BTC wallet. I also belatedly see that the backup phrase of 12 words are exactly the same with both my BCH and BTC wallets.

In short (sorry), I requested to receive BCH but payment provider sent me BTC funds (confirmed by blockchain info). What can I do to get those funds?

Thanks,

I figured it out!

I hadn't backed up my new BTC wallet this week (as I originally was not expecting any funds to my BTC wallet), and I only did this today so that my iPhone has both wallets current and present on my iPhone.

But I think this step of backing up my BTC wallet then allowed me to "scan for funds" in Settings, BTC Wallet, Wallet Settings, More Options, Wallet Addresses and then "Scan addresses for funds". It found the Legacy address (BCH/BTC) and displayed and placed my funds in my BTC wallet yay!

Side quip: now it's time for me to figure out a good reasonable BTC ATM near me to get actual cash....

Hope this also helps others in similar situations.

Cheers,
