My Bitcoin Cash Story by pattythetree at reddit

Hey all! This is the first time I've ever posted on Reddit, and I just wanted to share a little story of how I got into Bitcoin Cash.

I first heard about Bitcoin back in 2013 after reading a very interesting article in Maximum PC magazine. The concept of a decentralized, censorship-resistant form of money intrigued me. However, it wasn't until several years later, in 2017, that a few YouTube videos caught my eye and really got me invested into learning as much as I possibly could. I bought some Bitcoin and played around by sending it between wallets, and the genius of it just blew me away.

However, when the August 1st fork happened, and Bitcoin split in two, I had no idea what to make of it. I was a member of r/Bitcoin at the time, and after reading post after post about "BCash" and how it was a hostile take-over attempt on Bitcoin, I just assumed that they were right. As we all remember, the blocks became full by December and fees went through the roof. I distinctly remember paying about $40 for one transaction! At that point, I realized that Bitcoin (Core) had no real future ahead of it. The Lightning Network seemed promising to me, but when I actually tried to setup a node on the testnet, I saw firsthand the technical complexity. I knew that, regardless of the technical obstacles, Lightning alone would not solve the issue of scaling Bitcoin.

Just a few weeks ago, I decided to give Bitcoin Cash another look. After reading the entirety of bitcoincash.org, I came to the realization that Bitcoin Cash is exactly what I wanted Bitcoin to be in the first place: fast and affordable, but still decentralized and censorship-resistant. I made the surprisingly easy decision to exchange all of my Bitcoin (Core) for Bitcoin Cash, and after trying it out a few times, I knew that I made the right choice. And now here I am today, a Bitcoin Cash fan and user, excited to join this community and eager to see what's next for the internet of money. :)
