Mining power requirements

Tue Dec 12, 2017 7:39 pm

Hi

I have read a few beginners guides but have not managed to any info about power requirements. I saw somewhere somone quoting 5000kw, that's half a megawatt, to power 5 antminers. Is that possible?

I have a hydroturbine that I wanted to refurbish. Originally I wanted to sell the power back to the grid. but the authorities here are frankly obstructive. Then it occurred to me that a mine might be a good way of using that power.

The old generator is rated at 18kva and dates from the 70's. So I reckon I can get about 20kw from it by upgrading components etc. That means about 20kw 24/7 for about 9 months of the year. Or perhaps a higher output, but for a shorter time. This is probably enough to supply the power requirements of our whole village of 12 households.

Could it really be that it will not be enough to power a few Antminers? And a bit of airconditioning?

Sorry to be so incredulous?

Any explanations gratefully received.
