Familiar with this old bitcoin 2011 Program?

Sun Dec 10, 2017 10:49 pm

Way back when I tried mining bitcoins using this program on mac. Now they are worth something and I have .02 of them I am interested to see if I actually have them....

I have tried transferring to a new wallet but my old computer program shows a cost of .01 to transfer. That is half of what I have!

I have no idea if this is a waste of time. If bitcoin really takes off my .02 could actually be a lot.
I am trying to find a way of viewing the private key but can't figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated

Bitcoin (SegWit) fees are high at the moment. But 0.01 sounds a bit too much.

Maybe it would make sense to export the private key and sweep it into a modern client like Electrum.

Because you were in possession of the bitcoin before August 1st 2017 you also have Bitcoin Cash on that address.
I recommend you sweep the private key as well and luckily the fees for Bitcoin Cash are very low. You can use an application like Electron Cash.

Of course you can also use the web wallet from Bitcoin.com. It will create a Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Core wallet on the first start and you can sweep both coins in the same application (just need to do it twice).

Let me know if you need any help.

You mentioned sweeping the private key....

That is the part I need help with. I can find the wallet address but I don't have any idea how to find the private key.

Thanks

You need to do this from the wallet console.
I don't know how to get there on a Mac. Please search for it in the menu.

Once you are in the console type the following.

1. walletpassphrase "your password" 600 (only if you have a wallet password)
2. dumpprivkey [your public address] (the address on which you received the bitcoins)

This should give you a string that begins with the number 5.

3. In Electrum/Electron Cash go to "Wallet -> Private keys -> Sweep" and paste the private key
(You need to do this step twice to receive BTC and BCH)
