Starting a full-time mining operation

Wed Nov 22, 2017 9:03 am

Hello!

New here, glad to join you all.

I've been researching a lot about mining for quite some time now; materials, location, power, upkeep, etc.. Myself and a few others are wanting to invest around $100,000 (perhaps more) into mining hardware and equipment to get ourselves started in running a full-time mine and grow over time. We fully support BCH and wish to contribute immense hashing power to the Bitcoin.com pool.

Now, the questions are...
  • 1. Should we purchase the Antminer S9s in bulk?
    2. Should we purchase the Avalon 741 in bulk?
    3. Should we wait until a new miner comes out?
I understand that it takes time to get your hands on a bunch of miners, for various reasons.

Thank you very much for your time and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Coming from someone who is into the concept of mining, but don't have the guts nor bank to actually start mining °~°

It's been quite a while since the S9 was released. It would be fair to say that the S10 will be coming out in the near future, my bet is on H1 2018. Haven't looked into Avalons though, so I can't really recommend them.

Unless Bitmain has a magic "Black Friday" discount, I would say to just wait for the new gen of miners.

Thank you for your input!

Yeah, it's been a while, but providing your kWh is decent, you can still profit. I assume that the more miners you can get bunched up together, the quicker your ROI is? I most certainly hope that new gen miners will come out out next.

GPUs are a different story. They're constantly updating. A bit more challenging to set up, though.

Usually you would bunch up multiple miners to get more value from your PSU, milking all the power you can. There's a sweet spot.

My concern is that when the new miners come up, they will be more efficient and the difficulty will go up, making it more expensive to mine a block. Others will still find it profitable while your profit lowers.
