BitCoin amount won't update

Hi I am trying to purchase some BitCoin using the wallet and the buy.bitcoin.com link. The BitCoin unit amount will NOT update. I simply get the circle but the unit total never updates. I have spent hours trying to do this and find it incredibly frustrating. Also the whole process of buying BitCoin seems incredibly awkward. Any advice would be welcome. I assume I can also use Exchanges but then it seems very complicated to choose the correct one and lots of agreements and information to read. I am seriously considering forgetting the whole thing as it is so complicated and awkward. Thanks for your time.
