Sure some subreddits favor the hidden upvotes for a couple hours like r/askreddit, so that not only the first persons with something mildly relevant get most upvotes but that people get to read more stories and upvotes go to the ones that actually deserve it without going "oh everyone else has upvoted it, i might just as well then", but to r/bitcoin I don't think it's a good change, since a lot of people use it as a news source and read comments from top-bottom upvotes so they'll get the most of the thread in least time. And not to mention most theymos' comments are downvoted to infinity, and I doubt it's just botters/people that don't like him, that subreddit could've had a bright future if he had resigned in time and left it to someone else.

I agree with this, but there is something hilarious about people not being shy about calling him out. I mean if you're going to censor you need to also be willing to take the criticism (which it seems like he's doing.)
