TOR bitcoin "exit" node

Sun Nov 08, 2015 3:11 am

Hi all,

I'm playing with the idea of setting up a tor "exit node" only for port 8333, and redirecting ANY_IP:8333 to a locally hosted bitcoind. So providing access to bitcoin for all TOR users, but not providing any real exit node functionality.

It's basically a man in the middle attack, but with the purpose of providing a service (not a disservice) to TOR users ;)

This would allow any user on the TOR network to connect to "any" bitcoin node (in reality only my bitcoind), without opening up the machine to a risk of being used as a DDoS vector. Sure, they can DDoS the machine itself via TOR, but cannot DDoS remote machines.

The bitcoind daemon would, of course, connect the TOR network to the regular bitcoin network.

Has anyone set anything like this up before? I have experience running bitcoin and linux servers, but no experience with TOR. Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks!
