can someone please explain this so a hopeless idiot can understand it.

I go to the HDM recovery option on the app, to scan the cold qr code from my bither wallet on my laptop. This is becoming very. frustrating. I'm trying to set up my first bitcoin wallet, and all i want to do is make it so the wallet on my computer is the wallet on my phone. If that's not possible, then still, what the heck does thing want me to scan. goofle is useless.

Just try to export your private key and save it on the safe place.
After you export your private key in your laptop just import it in mycelium Bitcoin wallet (mobile wallet) .Then after you import that you have now a one wallet address in your laptop and your mobile.I hope it help your problem.
