Is coinbase a good enough place to hold my Bitcoins?

Coinbase has personally been very reliable for myself over the year, sometimes lacking in customer service reponse time. Though, I HIGHLY suggest not keeping any currency locked up in any exchange, that being from Coinbase, Binance, Kucoin, etc. The reason I say this isn’t because the exchanges don’t have top security, because many do in fact. It is because that many exchanges have minor hacks that no matter that security there will be a breaching of funds. It is very smart to keep all assets offline on either a paper wallet or even cold wallet such as a Ledger Nano S/Trezor.

I would prefer to use hardware wallets instead of exchanges to hold my assets

I also prefer Binance, make sure you enable 2 factor auth which ever one you choose. I had my local bitcoins wallet hacked a few years ago, luckily it was empty at the time

I do not think any cryptocurrency exchange is safer than your own priatve wallet where you control the private keys. You could download wallets like blockchain, or Trust wallet or coinomi to store your btc. And for your altcoins you should do same too unless they do not have their own wallets. My altcoins Dash, Daps, Veil,and Monero are safely stored in their seperate desktop wallets.

If you don't have a lot of bitcoins then a non-custodial wallet such as the Bitcoin.com wallet should be fine. At least with a non-custodial wallet you have full control over your funds and private keys.

My personal choice would be a non-custodial wallet (Bitcoin.com) and a hardware wallet for offline storage.
