Bitcoin.com Wallet: Can seeds be used on both BTC and BCC?

Wed Sep 13, 2017 12:02 pm

With Electrum and Electron Cash, I can use the same recovery seeds on both.
It seems It's not true with Bitcoin.com wallet: It gave me error when I try to import 12 words seed (I have on BTC wallet) with Bitcoin Cash switch is ON.

I am really not sure. I know that when i started my BCH wallet it gave me a new seed to, maybe you can back up the wallet again with one seed afterwards but i doubt it.
The private keys are derived form the seed so i am guessing that you will always have 1 seed for each coin because of the way the wallet would generate the addresses.

Interesting question, i hope that someone can give a better answer than myself but i think I'm on the right path.

I think yes they can, the underlying architecture seems to be the same, right?

No i don't think so. Since the wallet would already be generating BCH addresses from the original BCH wallet seed it could not then be combined with the BTC seed that i know of.

That's exactly what I thought. The seed should technically create the same master private key on both chains. Why is not working? I think it's a bug! That's why I asked and hopefully getting a good explanation for that.

Well i have to stand up and say when i am wrong and in this case i was at least part wrong. :( i have spoken to the devs and yes you can create a new BCH wallet using your BTC wallet seed leaving you with one seed for both wallets/coins.

Ok so to do this just open your Bitcoin.com wallet and click on the + icon above your wallet and then click on "New personal wallet". Once you have done that select Bitcoin cash and then click on "show advanced options" here you will want to go into the "wallet key" option, paper then select "copy from wallet" underneath just select the BTC wallet you want to combine with a new BCH wallet and finally click on "create new wallet"

You can also try this link that Roger provided that is very helpful: https://blog.bitpay.com/bitcoin-cash-recovery/

Sorry if i have provided any information that may have been misleading. If you do have bitcoin cash in a wallet that you have created with a new seed then just move that to an address from your new wallet created with both seeds before deleting the single BCH wallet.
