I was just banned on reddit /r/bitcoin for saying I feel the new Bitcoin development is changing from original vision.

That sucks that you were banned. That's never fun to be excluded from a discussion forum for speaking your mind in a civilized manner. It's too bad that the legacy reddit forum does things like that, as they have lost a lot of good people from contributing to the forum because of it. Luckily, we have this forum and of course /r/btc, so don't feel alone or abandoned! :D

The only way to use /r/bitcoin or the talk forum without getting in trouble is to not use them.

Sounds like they've found a place to have the control they want and have had a harder time controlling on Bitcointalk.org. It's ironic that these forums that are created to discuss this open-source, decentralized currency are resembling communities that are tightly controlled.

The spam, the trolls, the BS posts can all be controlled but we can't want the Bitcoin economy and interest to grow and not expect the newbies that come in to ask the questions that we all already know the answer to.

There's a maturity that comes with learning about bitcoin and if we ban and censor every new person because they're thinking is still maturing we will cannibalize our own supports - we need these people for bitcoin to survive!

It's frustrating to me that they molest the game theory of reddit. Reddit was made (some would argue incorrectly as far as the algorithm itself is considered) as a way for people to filter through a lot of content, and allow the good content to rise to the top. Like a human sorting algorithm.

When you prevent people from ever even seeing certain content, you have completely ruined that system. I don't care if there is still information on r/bitcoin, it can't be considered honestly relevant, only that it is approved by the moderators.

Exactly!

Ellen Pao, former Reddit CEO get ousted because she tried to minimize the hate talk on that site. She was ousted because user said "NO! We want free speech!" Yet all of that is reversed when people start censoring the conversations...it can't go both ways. But at the same time if everything should be allowed on Reddit, shouldn't Theymos be able t o set up his own club of people to talk to? If you're having a party at your house you can kick out people you don't like, no?

Oh yeah the moderators of r/bitcoin should be able do whatever they would like, including censoring everything to the point that everyone leaves. However, the moderators of the reddit have a certain amount of social responsibility to facilitate the discussion of the project and I personally feel that Satoshi is probably sitting somewhere right now pretty pissed off at the mess we've made.

Just quoting from your reddit post:
The bait is:
The original vision described by satoshi of a cash-based peer-to-peer electronic
payment system.
And the switch is:
Limited on-blockchain transactions with the majority of transactions occurring off chain
and being settled. This is a switch because it becomes akin to banking systems and
trusting 3rd parties, which the white paper also describes is the problem we are trying
to avoid.
Agree 100%.

I'm not worried about some crazy folks thinking they should decide the fate of everyone. They are free to have an opinion that differs from my opinion, or your opinion, or Satoshi's vision. No issues there.

It is not the dictators that scare me. They should get some psychological help to overcome their issues, but they have no power. What is one man standing no a soap box going to do? It is when a majority starts to listen to these dictators, that they get power.

And censorship, owning the press (propaganda) is the way to control the people.

The solution is places like this. And for people to get 'burned and crucified' every time they go into that place to point to errors (and invite them here).
Excited about the potential of Bitcoin Cash in the beautiful country of Belize.

Is isn't the real worry also that the people pushing the "ban" or "delete" button on adverse comments are the ones who DO have influence and control? Even if they only currently control "the press" they certainly have the ear of developers.

It's foolish to think that this project would be completely consensus driven and we technically get to vote with our use of the system, with our transactions. But when the access to the proposal/development information (whatever they may be at any time) and a complete refusal to allow (literally) a forum for that debate to occur is concerning. It starts to resemble something we all don't like.

hellobitcoinworld, what did you expect? Didn't you know that you could only post posts 'in good faith'? tsk tsk :D     :D

I'm only kidding of course. It's good that this forum and bitco.in and r/btc remain places where there is a relatively free discussion of ideas. A few more forums in the community might not be a bad idea. Hopefully we can convince a lot of the old /r/bitcoin people to join by our superior content and discussion.
