What is the most secure Bitcoin wallet?

Hello,

What is the most secure Bitcoin wallet? I am interested in buying Bitcoins, but I want to be sure they are safe from theft before I purchase.

From my research it appears a hardware wallet (Trezor) or offline transaction signing (with Armory) would be most secure. Would one be more secure than the other, or is there a better option?

Also, what precautions should be taken to ensure security? For example, with the hardware wallet it looks like it is recommended to have a 16+ digit encryption and a backup on a USB. Would buying a second hardware be better as a backup than a USB?

Any advice is welcome. I'm just trying to smooth out my rough edges of understanding.
