I have never used Multibit, so I am guessing here:
When you export a key, it most probably exports the private key. It is easy to recognize, since it starts with 5 (public key starts with 1)
NEVER EVER type a private key into a website(unless it is an online wallet(DON'T USE online wallets))
So, if you type that key into the blockchain.info search bar, they won't find it, since they search for public keys.

You can use bitaddress.org.

But don't use it online. Download the webpage and verify the checksum before using it.

Bitaddress can find public keys associated with private ones. Just go to the Wallet Details tab for the required functionality. It recognizes most commonly used private key formats. The public keys can then be pasted in blockchain. There are two: compressed and uncompressed. I am not sure which ones your software used, so try them both.

Again... be careful who you trust your private keys to. Anyone can steal the funds (and any future funds sent to that wallet) if they gain access to the private key.

In the Bitcoin-Qt console type: importprivkey your_private_key
