Started earning bitcoins and need some advice.

Sat Nov 21, 2015 4:21 pm

Hi all, Newbie in bitcoin world. I recently started earning part of my income in bitcoins and i need some advice.
Let's say i make 1 bitcoin / month. First of all i only want to convert part of them and i see sometimes the price is higher and sometimes lower.
Is there some sort of trusted trader or a place where i can keep them ? Everywhere i read its full of warnings not to trust anyone and always guard your coins. How is it possible to let someone else handle them , exchange to fiat part of them when price is high, etc ?
I'm not even sure what kind of advice i'm asking for.

Thanks in advance anyways,

Hello, you can store your bitcoins in a digital wallet. Just like you store cash in a physical wallet, it's the same premise. Online (web) wallets are a little less secure than let's say a downloadable wallet program, because by being online you are susceptible to online attacks (viruses, malware, hackers, etc).

So it's good practice to keep 'spending' amounts (lower amounts) in a web wallet, like a mobile app for walking around money. Then keep an extra bitcoin you have in a wallet program. For the extra security concious, there are hardware wallets too, but that I would say is another subject for non-beginners. :)

For mobile wallets, there are many good ones, but to start you off some suggestions are Mycelium, Airbitz, Copay, or Blockchain.info.

For wallet programs, you can try Electrum or Multibit.

For selling bitcoins, you can sell them face to face in an in-person trade, or sell them online using an exchange.

For trades, you can use services such as LocalBitcoins, Paxful, or Mycelium Local Trader as platforms to connect you to people looking to buy bitcoins in your area.

Or you can sign up for a bitcoin exchange, get verified by tying your bank account to it, and sell your bitcoins on their site. The exchange will match your sell order to someone who wants to buy bitcoins and deposit the fiat to your bank account.

If you go with an exchange, you can find many here http://bitcoinx.io/exchanges or by country here http://bitcoinx.io/country-index

Learn how to create paper wallets for the safest storage.
I use a Mycelium USB entropy devise to create my and it couldn't be easier or safer.

I may still have 1 for sale if your interested.

If you want to keep bitcoins but not be affected buy the price swings then you could use a wallet like coinjar that has a btc headging function so if you put in 0.3btc worth $100 AUD then it will still be worth $100 when you transfer it to your spending wallet.

Not sure if Coinjar is world wide yet but im sure Coinbase and others have this feature now.

Welcome to the world of bitcoin and say goodbye to the world you once knew and their messy fiat system.

Hello,

There are many good wallets / exchanges where you can store them such as Coinbase, Bitstamp, Blockchain.info, XAPO etc. It depends on your demands. If you would like interest on your holdings I would go for bter´s investment account and hashnest pacmic fixed cloud mining contracts.

Here's a decent source to easily help you sift through the options: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

Good luck!

Waw! Thanks a lot for all the helpful replies. I was away for the weekend but now i'm back online.

So i allready have a mycelium wallet on my smartphone and i didn't yet got to the part where i need to change them for cash. I'm considering on holding. I was more curious if there are some safe investment places where you can deposit and get some % like when you deposit money into a bank and yuo get some sort of interest? .
Thanks again for all the answers.

No bitcoin banks that i know of, i think a couple of people have tried this in the past but they always turn out as scams.

About the only way i can think of to invest your coins to earn a profit is to invest in a site like BTCjam, they give out bitcoin loans and most loans are funded by mulitble.people so you all share the interest profits.
Please becauful with these sites as well, many member loose out when loaning.

Just hold would be my advise, look like we may be entering another bull run right now.

like already said, no place like trustworthy BTC banks yet.
I would also advise Hashnest.com if you want to make your BTC grow.

Or just hold on to them in a paper wallet if you believe the BTC price will rise (like probably all users of this site believe) and you want to keep them really save from "outside" attacks.
