The New Forum Design/Layout

Wed Oct 07, 2015 4:38 am

Hey,
Just wanted to say that I enjoy this layout/design better than the previous.
The text and columns are spaced out more and it's larger making everything easier to read and navigate.
Good update IMO. Keep it up!

Yeah, I like it too. Just some feedback though would be to tighten up all the whitespace, there is a lot of extra space and some of the icons/colors mismatching but they are little things I guess.

I'd like to add that we don't really need to see that x comment is a reply to x thread either, it creates clutter on the page. If that can be removed it'll tidy things up nicely.

Just m opinion, mind, but y'know...

Hi,

Not quite following what you are referring to. Please make a screenshot.

Icons should hopefully look a bit better now.

What whitespace are you thinking about? Screenshot and draw to clarify, please - and I'll see what I can do about it.

Just a crude example below, but the areas with red boxes could use less white space. I think if you tighten up the padding and margins you can reduce a lot of the empty space.

I was thinking about this some more, and just a simple fix would be to move the top banner ad from the top-middle area to the upper-right, as pictured below. I hope the crude illustrations are good examples for you to understand what I mean. Thanks!

Hiya,

haven't been on for a while.

On each and every persons comment on each and every thread at the top of their comment box is "RE:", in this instance, "Re: The New Forum Design/layout" - at the top of every single comment. I already know which thread I'm in and it takes up a lot of extra space, so my suggestion is, given we know what thread we're in, that we don't need to be reminded every single time someone adds a comment to that thread.

Came here just to praise the design. I think it's beautiful.

Ah. I see what you mean.

That's however supposed to allow you to change the specific topic within your post, even though it's still within the area of what the forum topic is supposed to be about - like I did just now.

But, I do agree that most people don't ever change that, and that it might be a completely unnecessary feature. I'll take the time and go through most of the topic replies and see if ti's actually used - if it's not, I might aswell remove it completely from the template.
