Linking bitcoin accounts?

Fri Nov 13, 2015 6:30 pm

Hey all!

I'm a few days into bitcoin.

It's like turning a firehose and trying to drink from it.

I'm trying to find a way to find my address. I'm using the android app "Bitcoin Wallet" I know addresses are really long so I was wondering if there is an easy way to sync up my wallet with sites like btc-e or other exchanges so I can start trading!

For instance, under "Your Addresses" there are 3 addresses listed. I have done two mobile-mobile xtns, but nothing is listed in "Sending Addresses"

Also, are there any simple ways to start earning bitcoins (other than buying in cash)? I would like to find a way to provide my expertise in finance and restaurant to earn bitcoin. Not sure what the faucet is all about. I know I can't start mining, maybe, but I'm not really ready to find out; I hear it's difficult.

Hope this is a good place to start and uncover more questions!

Hi David,

Good to see more people getting into bitcoin!
It can be a little overwhelming at the start but you will soon get used to how the network works, don't try to learn everything too quick just take your time and it will come.

Now regarding your questions i don't know if you can sync your wallet with btc-e and even if you could i don't think it would be a good idea.
Your best bet would be just to send some coins to btc-e and start trading from your online trade account, remember very important to never leave anymore BTC than you can afford to lose in an online wallet or exchange, better to move all coins at the end of trading to a paper wallet or hardware wallet like Trezor.

With the android app "Bitcoin Wallet" you can access your addresses by just tapping the QR code on the home screen or by pressing the icon at the top right and go to "Your Addresses"
Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks yall!

Good info.

I'm just taking it slow, I will learn as I go. I'm interested to get up to atleast 1 whole bitcoin. I only have a small 2.88 mBTC right now.

Hopefully it will grow as I funnel some of my discretionary income into my wallet

Hi DavidHill76! Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the future of money! :)

If you'd like to add one of your Bitcoin addresses to your forum profile I'll be happy to send you a few satoshis to add to your growing collection! I haven't got much these days but new adopters are the lifeblood of Bitcoin and I'm happy to see another person dipping their toes into this incredible technology.

You should never type out a Bitcoin address by hand due to the fact that they are case sensitive, and rather complex. An easy way to get one of your Bitcoin addresses onto your computer if you have a webcam is to use a website such as Web QR scanner (https://webqr.com/).
Simply open the QR code for your Bitcoin address (by tapping the square QR code inside the Bitcoin Wallet app, as mentioned above by 'bitkilo') and hold it in front of your webcam once you're on the Web QR scanner website.
You should get something like "bitcoin:1PpjrPnoCwSqhGGWMoBjpP7HdtbsLxwWhb" [Note: this is my Bitcoin address - don't copy and paste this, make sure it's your own!!]
Then just copy the long address after "bitcoin:" and paste it into the relevant area when withdrawing funds from a site or an exchange, or in this case, to the Bitcoin Address section of your Forum profile. Always double check the first few characters and the last few characters against the address on your phone to make sure it's correct, as Bitcoin transactions are non-reversible. And if you're privacy inclined, which most bitcoiners are, stick some duct tape over your webcam once you're finished using it! ;)

It may seem a little overwhelming at first but you'll pick it up in no time! :) You can't "sync up" your wallet in the traditional sense with btc-e or another exchange, but I think you might mean you just want to send Bitcoins to or from btc-e / an exchange to or from your own Bitcoin wallet. To send to an exchange, simply copy the deposit address from the deposit section of your exchange account, open up https://blockchain.info/ and paste the address into the search bar in the middle of the page and click the blue 'Search' button. It'll bring up a page with your Bitcoin address on it and a QR code. Then just hit the camera icon in your Bitcoin Wallet app, scan the QR code, double check that the address that comes up is the same as your deposit address and type in how much you want to send to the exchange, and click the 'Send' button! :)

Gary,

Thanks!

So from what I understand I dont want to post my wallet number in my signature?

Using the WebQR scanner, I got this:

bitcoin:19PqWZgyFYEBuX47CtUCfy4NGavQmYNDfB?label=DavidHill76

19PqWZgy FYEB uX47 CtUC fy4N GavQ mYND fB

thats what my bitcoin wallet says, but are the spaces necessary?

As for expertise, I have a degree in Finance, my Series 7 and Series 66 qualifications and Life and Health Insurance licenses.

If Financial Advisor doesnt work out, I will probably do something along the lines of consulting new restaurants. I have helped open 3 restaurants so far and have worked at 3 separate 5 start establishments. When TripAdvisor caught on, I helped them all try to get number 1, but some were big cities, and stayed in the top 5.

Do you mean your signature here on the forum, David? As long as you post your public Bitcoin address (i.e. the one that you give people when you want them to send you bitcoins) that's absolutely fine. Most people new to Bitcoin won't be messing around with private keys, so you can read up on those once you're a little better acquainted with Bitcoin.

There's a space in the profile section of your forum profile where you can post your Bitcoin address, and it'll appear in the information part of each post you make (like mine on the side there --->).

As long as you only ever post your public Bitcoin address you can post it anywhere and your funds at that address are safe. Note that the Bitcoin blockchain is an entirely public ledger, and anyone can view transactions made to and from your Bitcoin address. For example, by entering the Bitcoin address you provided above into blockchain.info we can see the following:

https://blockchain.info/address/19PqWZg ... GavQmYNDfB

Which Bitcoin wallet are you currently using?

Bitcoin addresses never have spaces; your current wallet is probably showing it with spaces in order to make it easier for you to type it elsewhere, but you should never type a Bitcoin address, always copy and paste it if possible. Bitcoin addresses are case sensitive and need to be exact, and Bitcoin transactions are irreversible so sending to an address with a typo would result in losing your bitcoins. So if your Bitcoin address is the one you provided above, your address is:

19PqWZgyFYEBuX47CtUCfy4NGavQmYNDfB

Re: your degree in finance, it's always good to get new blood in from the financial world! :) I helped open a small restaurant myself a couple of years back but it didn't quite work out as well as yours did. You either have the magic touch or I'm just really unlucky!

If you'd like to make some small transactions to get more comfortable with sending and receiving I can send a small amount of BTC to your Bitcoin address and you can send some of it back, and we'll rinse and repeat using that small amount until you're confident that you know what you're doing. Let me know. :)

Hi David,

I have sent a few bits to the address you posted, you can see the transaction here:
https://blockchain.info/tx/497558d86bf8 ... e07a027884

This is often just called the tx.
Once the transaction confirms you can then send some to Gary if you wish so you can get used to sending bitcoins as well because is not something you want to stuff up being a irreversible currency.

Gary can then send them back to yourself, you can keep what's left because remember there is a small miners fee if you want your transactions confirmed.

Enjoy!

Hey David,

You can find any member's Bitcoin address (if they've added one to their profile) by clicking the QR code under their username on any post, but for ease I'll post it here:

1GarydMgbHtof6cszxTaBBtRupjJC5CsbY

If you're using your mobile wallet then instead of copying that address from your computer to your phone, you can just scan the QR code right here ---> underneath my username. :) For future reference when making mobile payments to addresses you see on your computer, you can enter the address into https://blockchain.info/ and it will generate a QR code which you can scan with your phone. Putting my address into blockchain.info will bring up the following:

https://blockchain.info/address/1GarydM ... upjJC5CsbY

So to send to that address from your mobile wallet simply open Bitcoin Wallet for Android, tap the camera icon in the bottom right corner, position the QR code you want to scan inside the red box that appears and once it scans, double check the address (I usually just check the first 4 characters and the last 4 characters) then enter the amount you want to send in the field provided. All that's left to do then is hit 'Send'.

Once I've received I'll send it back to you and we can rinse and repeat a few times until you're comfortable with the process. :)
