Bitcoin.com Statement on Bitcoin Cash (BCC)

As we have previously stated, Bitcoin.com believes that behaving with integrity and upholding agreements made is the proper course of action for our company to take. As such, we continue to support the Segwit2x proposal, which has received broad support from Bitcoin industry and community alike.

Due to significant demand from our users, the Bitcoin.com Pool will give mining pool users, including those who have purchased cloud mining contracts, the option to support the Bitcoin Cash chain (BCC) with their hashrate, but otherwise Bitcoin.com Pool will by default remain pointed at the chain supporting Segwit2x (BTC).

We trust that our fellow community members will also behave with integrity and uphold agreements made, but in the unlikely event that the 2MB block size increase portion of Segwit2x fails to activate, Bitcoin.com will immediately shift all company resources to supporting Bitcoin Cash exclusively.

This is a great statement except for the fact that either Bitcoin cash will be a heavyweight player and clear competitor to the bitcoin legacy chain or it will go down into the dust. If it doesn't have enough hashing power and if people aren't convinced it will last and be relevant, they will have no incentive to hold BCC and the BCC price will crash. In that case it won't be much of a threat that Bitcoin.com will shift all company resources to the ailing cash.

I really hope Bitcoin Cash comes out of the gate strong and becomes the dominant chain before November. November is too long to wait for larger blocks.

Even though I agree with you on SegWit, I disagree with your assessment that Roger and Bitcoin.com is making the wrong move here. Integrity means a lot, and to renege on the NYA now would be just the chink-in-the-armour that trolls need to discredit Roger forever. That's even if BCC does win the BTC war. "Remember that one time you promised to do one thing, then stabbed them in the back?"

What the statement does is two things: 1) Provide for the freedom of cloud miners to switch some of Bitcoin.com's hash to BCC without officially supporting it, and 2) Send the veiled threat that if the 2MB block increase doesn't go through as also agreed at the NYA, Bitcoin.com will be free to abandon the agreement without repercussion.

Personally, I like it. What #2 does is probably make it even MORE likely the signatories of the NYA will cancel the 2MB increase out of both spite and the knowledge that there will already be another chain with big blocks so f*ck 'em.

The only thing I would have added to the statement is a final out in the unlikely case the hashrate of BCC quickly surpasses BTC, or even surpasses it sometime down the road. The statement above makes it sound like Bitcoin.com is 100% committed to the SegWit2x chain, even if it falters.

Segwit2x is the worst of options.

Segwit launched by soft fork is ludicrously conmplex and fragile.
2x later - really?

If no 2mb comes later, couple of months or so, Roger will then decide to act?
Bit late.
(unless he takes majority hash with him, and even so, that is holding bitcoin back another few months, but more likely as windowly explained that is clearly not a solution that can be relied upon)

Segwit is for enabling “off chain” scaling (i.e. not using Bitcoin)
Big blocks enable “on chain” scaling. (i.e. using bitcoin)
Simple.

Segwit is innefficient on the Bitcoin blockchain.
Segwit only gains efficientcy through enabling unsecure lightning networks.
Off chain scaling through segwt is less secure, but will still take its own value away from your bitcoin.

On chain scaling keeps that value locked in your bitcoin.

Segwit and big blocks are incompatable.
segwit2x is perfect to hold Bitcoin back for the next ten years, if segwit survives that long before being hacked, taking Bitcoin down with it.

Big blocks only bring problems we know about and can quite easily solve.

The risk of coding failure leading to a corrective hard fork in the future, and outcome thereafter sway against segwit. That risk to security is massively swayed against segwit by soft fork adoption.

Segwit is a very real attack on Bitcoin.

While I understand your frustrations. Unfortunately there are no winners here. I could be wrong but if bitcoin.com were to go with BCC, they would have to dishonor the NewYork Agreement. What then would we say about them? Would we trust anything they say? I think all the organisations that were against SegWit but NYA are caught between the rock and a hardplace right now.

We will have BCC mining available for our customers from August 1st.
If you have purchased hashrate from us then you will be allowed to mine what you want with your hashrate.

Cool, thanks for the update. I don't see why there would be any suicide pact. Bitcoin Cash is competition. Competition is important in free market of ideas. I'm interested in seeing how Bitcoin Cash develops alternative ideas.

Shamefully Bitcoin.com propagated SegWit2x, but could not fork its wallet for user to have two versions of bitcoin! I fault the genuity of the new BCC

Regarding the recent fork of Bitcoin.

I understand that the devs and such are always caught up in the tech side of things, but the majority of us invest simply because we have faith in decentralized currency, we really do keep the whole thing alive.

So considering the low tech investors like myself make up the bulk of investors it really s&$t's me that the guys up the top don't give us a thought.

Not one page explaining how to get BCC when we hold Bitcoin in a Bitcoin Core Wallet.

This is really weak considering this is early days in crypto and we all need to encourage others to get involved.

Please, sometimes, just sometimes, get off your thrones and help us out.

Not one page telling us what to do, not one youtube vid.......nothing.

So please stop giving yourselves medals and help us to help you.

I'm sure some low tech person like myself will soon work it out for themselves and post something.

I'm sure many people around the world will be very appreciative.
They might even be willing to tip you something with Bitcoin Cash because the transaction fee won't be more than the amount they wanted to tip.

Bitcoin.com will be adding more help soon too, but there are only so many of us, and only so many hours in the day.
We need more help too!
