Hello and welcome to Bitcoin.com you have come to the right place to get started with bitcoin.

You can see a selection of mobile, online and desktop wallets here: https://www.bitcoin.com/choose-your-wallet

May I suggest trying our very own Bitcoin.com wallet, I have been using and testing this wallet for about a month now and it's great:

It depends on your platform. You can use an online wallet such as at blockchain.info, but I would suggest using a wallet on your phone or tablet, if you have a supported Android or iOS device.

So if you look at Google Play, or the Apple Store (?), and type in "bitcoin wallet" and select the one made by bitcoin.com, the wallet app will install and take you through a brief set up. Be sure to keep your "wallet seed" safely; this is the sequence of usu. 12 words and is part of the "randomness" that goes into creating the cryptographic keys. Select the correct sequence of words, and then you will see the home screen.

From there, you would typically use an exchange or broker to buy bitcoins, but you can buy them from people who have them in a more anonymous and more or less safe manner through localbitcoins.com. You pay a higher price, but it may be more convenient to get started with, if you live near a populous area and people are available to chat with, or meet up with in person. They are usually helpful when you are getting started.

There is just one important issue to mention right now, and that is that Bitcoin may experience some lags in verifying transactions and therefore trusting them at this point. Buy now, today, and hold on to them, or wait for a while until it is considered safe to transact with bitcoins. You can stick around here or come back after August 1 to see how it goes. Nothing catastrophic will happen; you will be in control of your private key (assuming you use a full wallet service on your PC/laptop or mobile device, not an online wallet), but there may be some verification time issues.

I hope this has been helpful.
