HOW do I get a bitcoin address?

I can't believe I'm going around in circles. I have my wallet, it is of no help, I try to buy a bitcoin and the purchase page wants my bitcoin address and I don't have one! I'm missing something. been going around in circles all afternoon, hit roadblocks no matter which way I turn. I'm NOT STUPID but this is making me doubt that. WHAT AM I MISSING?

Don't worry about it i am sure you are not stupid at all, bitcoin can be a little tricky to pick up at the beginning but once you know whatb you are doing it will all become second nature. You know for years there were people that could just not work out how to operate an ATM machine and were frightened of them.

If you already have a bitcoin wallet then you should already have a "receiving address" within that wallet, now you just have to find it.
What wallet are you using?

Can you see a option to "receive" bitcoin? if you can get into that you should be able to copy your "receiving" address from there. Most standard bitcoin addresses will start with a 1 - this is my address: 1J6TkR36eUuxvwTDMiVDTLfyVfMJHsozYA
If you are using a multisig address then it may start with the number 3 instead of the number 1

What wallet are you using? So we can specifically tell you where to see your address.

I have the same problem as the original poster in this thread. I downloaded my wallet from Bitcoin so I have a Bitcoin wallet. On the page I am trying to buy my first Bitcoin the field says "Bitcoin Address". I went into my wallet and clicked on Receive. I clicked on the long string of characters (that begins with a 1) and the prompt says it was copied to my clipboard.

When I copy that string of characters I get an error message that says "Please provide a valid Bitcoin address".

So how do I find my Bitcoin address?

Same problem, looks like there is some poor set up work on the BC site. Yes i can find my wallet, it totally empty with no options on it.

Please note that there is not just 1 bitcoin wallet available and there is NO official bitcoin wallet.
Bitcoin.com is just one domain name used to promote Bitcoin. Bitcoin.com is not an official website. Just like nobody owns the email technology, nobody owns the Bitcoin network.

OK. First of all identifying the wallet. I got mine from Bitcoin.com, which i think some are calling 'official', other than that how might i identify it?

If i go to my 'personal wallet', the header of which is Bitcoin.com - Bitcoin.com Wallet, the only information is 'No transactions yet'
So getting a string of numbers is a bit of a mystery to me. There doesn't appear to be anything to interface with.

I really do appreciate the people who give up their time to help folk like me with what I am sure are, for older players, inane questions, but really, the instructions that the site are giving are seriously flawed. I was a technical writer in the oil industry and worked on numerous 'Plain English' projects.
The instruction on the Bitcoin.com site verges on Masonic.

Which wallet is this? If you have a wallet, then you should have a pre-made address in the wallet. The address should be fairly visible and easy to find. For example, if you open up a wallet like Electrum. Once you make your account, you should see a sub-heading saying "Receive". If you click this, then you should see an address. Something like this: 13YwEfzsnRWanphqi7RnJkjiGZXXhLh18P (This is my address).

If you are using a wallet like Coinbase, you can see your Bitcoin address in the "Tools" section. You can even create a new address by clicking on the "create new address" button in the "Tools" section.

We can help all of you guys further if you state the name of your Bitcoin wallet. By the way, there is more than one Bitcoin wallet. You are not limited to the wallet that you are using right now. You can change your wallet, for example, to Electrum. Then just follow the instructions I have provided above and you will have your address.

yes there are lots of wallets. The one we are complaining about here seems to not want our business, as it can't get organise instructions for use. I found a better one. It suits me better as an Australian, with an Oz bank account. I looked in youtube and found a simple set of instructions. If youre having troubles my advice is look further. The sort of problems encountered here are simple and unforgivable.
