Hello Everyone, Need some HELP..... Moving my OLD COINS Trezor NEWB

Sat Jul 15, 2017 3:44 am

I have a wallet from 6-7 years ago I just recently received my Trezor in the mail. I have some question concerning safety. I have a few USB sticks with bitcoin QT wallet. I uploaded and put away offline. All the same wallet just back ups.

1) Do I need a brand new laptop ?n the one i have now i have had for a while. Could it be risky to use ?

2) Should I use my WIFI ?

3) Should I first put my USB drive in laptop offline then check ?

4) how do i get my bitcoins from my old wallet to trezor safely ? I do not want my laptop to update 6-7 years of blockchain that is very risky to leave my coins online that long correct ? Any faster way to update.

5) electrum is the better option for a wallet to go with trezor correct ?

6) what else should I be looking out for ?

I am not a very tech savvy guy. So the easier the language the better. I am just worried with all the stories bout hacking etc etc I want to be super careful in moving my coins safely. As much advice as I can get would be amazing. I thank you in advance and sorry about all the NEWB questions.

The way I would handle this is to first install Electrum on your laptop with it connected to the internet. Then disable your WiFi and/or unplug your ethernet cable. Insert your USB drive with the wallet.dat file and export the private keys from bitcoin-QT using the method described here: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/quest ... shi-client. Import the keys into Electrum and create a watch-only wallet (see http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/coldstorage.html). Save the watch-only wallet to another USB drive. Install a second copy of Electrum on a different computer connected to the internet and restore your watch-only wallet to it. Create the transaction which sends the bitcoins to your Trezor using your online Electrum client. Save the unsigned transaction to the flash drive and sign it with the copy of Electrum running on your still-offline laptop. Take the signed transaction back to your online computer and broadcast it. You can do the same thing with Armory, but for that you will need the full blockchain.
