If the blockchain wallet you are using is asking you to scan a private key then you must be trying to "spend from cold storage" or "paper wallet"

Do you have any bitcoins in your wallet to send or are they on a piece of paper you have received?

What wallet are you using? If you're just planning on sending then you dont need to scan your private key. You're probably using the wrong option.

I'm using blockchain. It's an added feature since i'm using an imported "watch only" address. I don't know where to find the private kay.

You cant send using a "watch only" address. it literally is what it is. a wallet that you only can watch funds.

That's why i need a private key to transfer/spend my btc to another address. Has anyone encountered this problem?

I'm not sure as I'm not using blockchain's wallet, but I'm pretty sure you need to import your wallet as a spending wallet not as a "watch only" wallet. Did you use a different wallet before that?

When i started i was clueless. I opened an account with coinbase first but did not do any transaction. My first transaction was with blockchain, that was a year ago. Now that i'm trying to spend my btc that's the first time i heard of private key and "watch only". If i open a new account will i get a new private key? and can i link it to my "watch only" address? I really appreciate your reply. I'm not a techy person.

Ok no need to panic yet.
What site are you going to when opening your blockchain wallet, the correct address is: https://blockchain.info/wallet . To open your wallet from that link you will need your password and 2fa code if you have the activated, can you do that?

If you need to restore your wallet then you will need the 12 word phrase you were given when you first set up your blockchain wallet, have you still got that?

A "watch only" address is exactly that. Where did you create this Bitcoin address? You need to import the private key in order to spend the coins on it. Finding that depends on the method you initially used to create the address.

Blockchain support said they have no way of recovering the private key since it's an imported address. I already contacted coinbase, I hope they can help me.

I registered myself a wallet on blockchain.info to check, but I couldnt find an option whereas I can recover a wallet. Are you on a PC? Download Electrum wallet via electrum.org

Go to File > New/Restore > Next > Standard wallet > I already have a seed > enter your recovery phrases.

You should be good after that. If you prefer android, use Copay. If you use iOS, try breadwallet.

Not sure if this is the best solution, but I would do it this way.
