What to do? It appears that lots of people seem to believe that Bitcoin.com - and this forum - is bitcoin itself..

It appears that lots of people seem to believe that Bitcoin.com - and this forum - is bitcoin itself..

It seems like there are more and MORE customer-service-like questions showing up everyday here at the forum and many are first time posts from brand new members.

A few months I wasn't sure or not if some of the posts where coming from trolls who just wanted to waste our time here at the forum.

However, my observation is that most of the posts are likely genuine.

I've answered a few questions and also put a lot of time into a lengthy reply to a post from brand new member a few nights ago.

Moreover, members like bitkilo seems to have super-human-like energy to respond to a great and immeasurable number of customer-service-like questions from brand new members.

A big and tremendous thanks to members like, though not limited to, bitkilo!

Lastly, it seems that when lots of the first time posts from new members, which contain customer-service-like questions are answered or replied to with requests for more info or clarifications, that the new members don't reply back and often don't even ever login again.

Maybe the posts are at least somewhat helpful to other unrelated searchers (on Google, other search engines or here at forum) down the road who are looking for answers to specific problems.

What does everyone else here think about all of the customer-service-like questions which are showing up from people who seem to believe that we are bitcoin itself?

Or is my observation way off and nothing has really changed?

This site domain is too good. LOL.

A way to counter this problem is to put like a disclaimer on the landing page of bitcoin.com or forum.bitcoin.com; something like "This site is only affiliated to bitcoin but has no ownership of it something something". Probably not a good solution because it would ruin the aesthetics of this site, but yea. or maybe just pin a forum topic about it.

Firstly thank you for the kind words Nandibear, unfortunately I am not super human just one with little life outside of bitcoin, I devote most of my spare time to helping others learn about this great new technology.

I’m not the only one putting in long hours here though, everyone on the Bitcoin.com team puts in an enormous effort on every project we have running.
And members like yourself are not forgotten either, with your help moderating topics and deleting spam here allows me more time to work on the other duties I have.

Regarding people seeing Bitcoin.com as owning the bitcoin technology then this is just something that is unavoidable when running a website like this, I am happy to answer any questions members have and steer them in the right direction, it’s all part of my job.

We already have a disclaimer like this at the bottom of the page but maybe we should make this stand out a little more.
Bitcoin.com is just one domain name used to promote Bitcoin. Bitcoin.com is not an official website. Just like nobody owns the email technology, nobody owns the Bitcoin network.

As such, nobody can speak with authority in the name of Bitcoin.
Please help Ross and his family during this hard time by donating to the https://freeross.org/ fund. Play at the best provably fair Bitcoin games site here: games.bitcoin.com Need a fantastic Bitcoin wallet Pick up some great Bitcoin.com swag here

Oh. Definitely. I didn't even notice it. Maybe a small popup window that will only appear for unregistered users?

Probably wouldn't help anyways. People would just ignore it as they do now. What is needed is a really good resource to link people to that is generic and helpful. I started one here. Please feel free to add to it and link to it! Copy and paste is your friend. beginners-help/new-to-bitcoin-check-out ... 26940.html

Is a disclaimer really needed? Do most of the people who leave these types of posts quickly realize that bitcoin is not owned by bitcoin.com? How many of these posts occur each week?

As Bitkilo said, the site address is fantastic! Roger and team should get the benefit of the traffic generated by someone googling "Bitcoin" and getting Bitcoin.com as a top result!

As long as people here, the entire community, are clarifying misinformation I think it's fine.
