Bitcoin’s block size should be left alone

It is well known that increasing the 1MB Bitcoin block limit decreases block propagation speed. As someone who follows the scaling debate I have often noticed that people tend to ignore (or mention only in passing) that bigger blocks directly decrease the security of Bitcoin, and tend to stress other factors first (e.g. that bigger blocks give big miners an edge).

The article was interesting to read but what i wanted to know was that if there was a blocksize increase to 2mb how much less secure would this make the network. If this is only going to impact on the network security 1% then the payoffs of 2mb blocks could be worth it.

Would more people running full nodes on a network with a 2mb blocksize increase the security?
