I purchased 0.05 of a Bitcoin 24 hours ago. It has not gone to the address I entered at the time of purchase. So where is it? How long does it take for it to go to the address?
Hi Katina.. I'm happy to see that you seem to be interested in Bitcoin BTC and that you have attempted to acquire some bitcoin.
Where did you buy the bitcoin from?
My personal observations is that it can be VERY difficult for Americans to outright buy bitcoins online with US dollars (bank card/credit card).
There may be just one single online exchange where people in United States can easily 'buy' bitcoin with a bank card (or debit/credit cards) and bank transfers. The name of the exchange is
Coinbase.com .. it's also worth pointing out that they (i.e.,Coinbase) probably offer the best buying price online for
USD to
Bitcoin BTC.
The downsides to
Coinbase include -
(
1) you probably wont want to store your bitcoin there .. if you buy there I recommend moving your bitcoin out soon after purchase to a
bitcoin wallet at
Blockchain.info - a relatively secure yet EXCEPTIONALLY user friendly wallet for Americans as well as everyone everywhere.
(
2) they'll (Coinbase) want to verify your identity (

but typically you wont need to provide any documents or scans or images or anything

) so the US Government or IRS will likely, at some point and if they want it, have access to records of you buying/selling bitcoin
There was another big exchange called
Circle where Americans could 'buy' bitcoin but at some point within the last year or so it's no longer really and option for Americans and US dollars.
There are other smaller exchanges where, as an American, you MIGHT be successful in 'buying' bitcoin. However, I don't personally endorse them (I'm not sure how safe they are) and most of them will request EVERYTHING (a selfie of you holding you driver's license and scans of credit card and utility bills other CRAZY items and info) before you can even make an ATTEMPT (probably wont even work and all that you've done is gave them everything but your blood sample and your family tree DNA) to purchase some bitcoin.. and on top of that the rate you'll pay (USD to BTC) will probably be HORRIBLE.
Having said there are a few other online options that MIGHT be worth looking into as an American -
Paxful.com - As an American or person in the USA or using US dollars you'll find a number of ONLINE options for 'buying' bitcoin including, though not limited to, - Western Union, Moneygram, Walmart gift cards, debit/credit cards (where you'll be directed to an off site merchant), and many other options including Amazon gift cards. I've used Paxful and I believe that they are good place and secure. However, I've rarely seen good USD to BTC rates. Moreover, it's not really a 'regular' use your bank card/credit card place. It's more a place for using tons of other options which you probably wont have everyday but might on occasion by helpful (e.g., Walmart gift card, Target gift card, Western Union, Amazon gift card, etc...)
LocalBitcoins.com - As an American or person in the USA or a person using US dollars you'll find a number of ONLINE options for 'buying' bitcoin including, though not limited to Western Union and bank deposits. You also find many options for walk in bank deposits (you take the money to their bank and deposit it).
Kraken - With some amount of work and effort you MIGHT MAYBE find success in 'buying' bitcoin (and at a decent price) at this very large and well known exchange but you'll need to send images of drivers license (scan and also a camera pic) and other documents. It's my position that their site doesn't 'look or feel' as user friendly as Coinbase.
There are probably other online options for Americans but I'm not going to list them because I don't trust them and by the time you give them everything they want, and even then if they accept you, the price per BTC will be terrible and likely you'll encounter other problems and in the end you'll likely be left with negative thoughts regarding Bitcoin.
Some closing thoughts -
Bitcoin doesn't have an office or a customer service number or a CEO or an owner.
Bitcoin.com is place which is all about Bitcoin/bitcoin
but is not Bitcoin/bitcoin itself. However, the forum here is any excellent place to learn about bitcoin,
ask questions and exchange ideas, thoughts and opinions.
'Buying' bitcoin is not the only way to get bitcoin. Think of bitcoin as digital cash. The next time that you that sell something you could ask a buyer to pay you in bitcoin. Not a seller of anything?.. I think that we all sell things at some point.. maybe an old computer, old furniture or maybe our time itself such as doing to some task for a friend, family member of co-worker.
Moreover, if you have a blog or website you could ask supporters to donate bitcoin.
I hope that some or all of the above was helpful
