Are you talking about a specific transaction that you are waiting to confirm? if so please post the txid so we can look into it for you, most likely cause is probably too low of a fee attached but can't say for sure without knowing what transaction you are taking about.

Confirmations are much slower and transactions are becoming more expensive on the bitcoin network than they used to be.
The longer waits and the slower confirmation times basically come down to one factor, the blocks are full and bitcoin needs to scale if it is to keep up with the growing demand.
What the best scaling solution is i don't personally know but it is probably the biggest issue facing bitcoin.
