I just checked up the Alexa ranking for that other forum where people just Talk...Globally it's 4,528 and in the US it's 4,768.

The Forum is catching up!

Our ranking is for the entire Bitcoin.com domain including the news, pool, games, etc...
We will get there eventually with our forum, but have a long long long way to go.

Hi Roger, I believe you're thinking about this the wrong way. That other forum is just a forum...they've been around forever...this is their peak. Bitcoin.com is so much more than a forum and therefore has a lot more to offer bitcoin enthusiasts. Bitcoin.com's existence and rankings are in their infancy...you have a lot more growth to do and well past the other forum's "best".

Just like the price of bitcoin, it takes a long time for moves to happen and then one day the demand is pushing the price past $1450!

This is really common I think. Very hard to outrank wikipedia. Still very good nonetheless.

1. A bit of organization on the forum.bitcoin.com landing page, as the page is too long (in my opinion), due to the "World" subforum taking up too much space. Instead of one column maybe split them up into 2 or 3 columns? Something like this perhaps (some other forum i'm active on):



2. Better anti-spam measures. Small discussion at post64243.html

3. CloudFlare anti-DDOS protection. (Just for extra precautionary measures).

4. A better text editor when posting replies/topics. You can straight up copy paste an image from your browser to the text editor when using IPBoards.

5. CTRL - Z (undo), and other keyboard shortcuts doesn't work in our current text editor.

6. Better view of 'quotes' in forums.

When the three dots are clicked, the full quote will be displayed. This way, topic posts would look alot cleaner.

7. Better notifications: Desktop/Mobile notifications option (not just notifications when viewing forum.bitcoin.com).

8. A BLACK THEME OPTION. I think this should always be an option on most forums. White hurts my eyes at night, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with the same opinion.

The forum already utilises CloudFlare. I don't really like depending on them, because since they act as an intermediary, they technically should be able to prep into your data traffic, somewhat evident in the cloudbleed bug.

Just an undo button in general would be great, i'm mostly on my phone, so ctrl-z won't really help me

Another thing is that the forum design is using a template. It's not bad, but I immediately recognised it.

For your suggestions:

1. I agree it's long but not sure how much effort it's worth to make the page less for only a small return in real estate. Better organization would go a long way too. Let me look into this more.

2. We talked about it in the other thread. Trust me spam is a priority as we are all tired of it and are working on different solutions.

3. We have this already actually. You only see it when it's active.

4. Not sure, will have to look into this. We are limited by the phpbb architecture. Don't forget you can attach files when submitting a post now by clicking the Attachment tab below and then Add Files (I attached an image to this reply to show you too).

5. Control-Z works for me now, as well as Control-Y, V, and others.

6. Undecided on this. I guess it depends if it's super long or not. Will think about it.

7. This is a good idea, again limited by phpbb software though. Not sure if this is possible.

Not natively, but I'm sure someone should be able to whip up a TamperMonkey userscript somehow. I'll look into it, however I personally have never worked with them. Would be a fun, interesting project to work on however.
