Fri Apr 14, 2017 3:21 pm

Hi. I have sent bitcoins to three totally different address in the last 12 hours. None have been confirmed. This has never happened before. Never once, let alone to three different locations. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hi JPC,

It is likely that the transactions do not have a sufficient transaction fee relative to how congested the Bitcoin network currently is.

The reason that transaction fees are climbing higher than usual, thus delaying transactions which do not include an appropriate fee, is because Bitcoin blocks are becoming too full to handle all the transactions that are currently being made. These full blocks are occurring due to the Bitcoin network itself not being allowed to scale appropriately and progress is being held back by the current 'Bitcoin Core' team of developers.

We strongly suggest supporting an alternative Bitcoin client such as Bitcoin Unlimited, the developers of which are working toward an increase to the blocksize, thus allowing space for all of Bitcoin's current transactions to be processed in a speedy manner with little to no fees - the way Bitcoin was designed to work from its inception.

Once the transaction backlog is cleared your transactions will likely be included in a block, but if the transaction remains unconfirmed for longer than 72 hours it will be returned to the address it was sent from.

if you post the transaction id and/or the sending address, i can take a look at your problem.
Altough chances are very large that Fremont is indeed correct (fees are the problem in +95% of the stuck transactions nowadays)

EDIT => *i'm leaving for a long easter weekend in about 5 minutes... If the OP hasn't posted the txid by then, i'll have a look at the problem on tuesday!

unfortunately the bitcoin unlimited app doesn't work on my Mac. Crashes when loading.

It looks like all 4 transactions have been confirmed over the course of the weekend :D

However, i did notice all 4 had a fee of ~44 satoshi/byte. Last week, the recommended fee was between 120 and 160 satoshi/byte. In other words: the low fee caused the confirmation delay.

If you want to avoid this problem in the future, make sure you pay an appropriate fee. In case you have problems chosing the correct fee, either create a post on this forum asking for help, or contact me in PM.
