Best place to keep Bitcoin during hard fork to get BTU

Hi. I have been telling people to store their Bitcoins on a hardware wallet in event of a hard fork. However some say that Bitcoins must be on an exchange or else the BTU cannot be retrieved. Please can you advise. Many thanks.

If you don't hold the private keys for your bitcoin, you just have an IOU that someone (an exchange, what not) will give you the bitcoin when you ask.

The hardfork will probably be quite anticlimatic and there will be no BTU or minority coin. All the miners will probably more or less smoothly transition to the majority chain so they are not wasting their hashpower.

Keep your bitcoin in a trezor or paper wallet and you should be fine.

Well, you should have them backed in a paper wallet or somewhere on your hard drive. I'm not sure that the Hard fork will go through.

I generally generate my paper addresses at bitaddress.org

There are several tools there including bulk wallet generation and password encryption.
