Do NOT send Bitcoin to Dell.com

Sat Mar 04, 2017 6:05 pm

On Feb 26th I placed an order with Dell.com and selected Bitcoin for the payment option. When I hit the button to place the order, I was told the transaction could not be processed, but my Coinbase account had shown that it had sent the Bitcoin. The following morning i received an email from Dell.com saying that they had received my payment , and asked for the order details. I provided the details, and asked them to create the order. I waited another day, and still no order had been created. I tried calling customer support, and not a single person could offer me any help. after two hours, not only was I not ever transferred to anybody who could speak proper English, but not a single person was able to offer any help what so ever. On March 4th, 5 days later, I finally received assistance from Coinbase, I received an email from Dell.com saying that they were going to send me a refund check. Now Bitcoin had gone upp $100 dollars by this point, so it was obvious what they were trying to pull. I responded saying that i wanted my refund to be sent in Bitcoin. The next day I finally received an email saying that a Bitcoin refund had been initiated, and that i would not receive my Bitcoin for another 5 business days. So this entire ordeal will have ended up tying my Bitcoin up for 2 weeks. I would not advise ever doing business with Dell, and would not use Coinbase to process any purchases made online.

Before blaiming Dell just yet you must first check that they are indeed the ones responsible. I find it very hard to believe such a large billion dollar companie would rip off a customer no matter what the size of the transaction was.

Most of these retailers use companies to process bitcoin payments for them, do you know who Dell was/is using?
What address did they ask you to send bitcoins to for the order?

You got your Bitcoin back, that's really all that matters. Having it held up for 2 weeks is annoying, but certainly not the end of the world.

I doubt they have many staff members qualified to handle Bitcoin transactions. This really is less of a "scam" and more just an inconvenience.
