14 Industry Luminaries (and an Ode) on the State of Bitcoin 2016

Sat Dec 31, 2016 6:05 pm

Call them what you want; dignitaries, pundits, bigwigs, luminaries or – even – enemies. There are always headstrong debates raging on in the Bitcoin space, and some people’s names get tossed around more than other’s. We decided to reach out to a few of them and ask them a simple question.

Bitcoin.com decided to reach out to a wide range of well-known cryptocurrency community members and ask them one simple question:

“How would you summarize the current state of bitcoin as the year 2016 closes?”

What we got back was everything from a single line of observation to a whole ode on the fascinating developments. Here’s what a few those Bitcoin proponents within the community had to say:

I like how you wrote this article Jamie, well done :) :) :)

As for my own personal opinion of Bitcoin in the past 12 months, disaster.

I've seen great people like Gavin Andreesen of whom has pioneered the Bitcoin project for so long, become treated with such abuse it is disgusting. Roger attacked, Jihan attacked, I have personally been attacked, too many innocent people have been attacked.

Companies such as Circle have decided to drop Bitcoin due to technical problems caused by Bitcoin Core, leaving us with billions in future growth that would have helped the long-term stability of Bitcoin and further adoption.

Hundreds of thousands of users have been ripped off for fees they should never have to have paid on a smooth running Bitcoin network. Their time has also been stolen from them, waiting for days, pulling their hair out.

We have a group of frauds that hi-jacked the Bitcoin Core project, attempting to leverage the existing userbase to push them on-to solutions of which puts the peoples money at risk, bringing forth legal consequences and is nothing like what the Bitcoin white-paper originally entailed.

Now, for the good news. 2017 will be a year where the people take control of the situation, they take control of the future of their Bitcoin. We will make change and we will show the world how valuable this technology is, how you cannot steal it or attack it at its heart. How that when the people work together - they prevail.
