Bitcoin Exchange stealing bitcoins - is it common?

Tue Nov 22, 2016 8:56 pm

Hi Forum

I'm new to sending btc to an exchange and them sending money to my account.
How would I go about getting my money or btc refunded if the exchange just decides to keep the bitcoin I sent them?
I have screen shots and transcripts to their support who simply said we can't send you the money and we are keeping your
coin unless you send us 3btc more. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
I've resent an email to their so called support email and they have yet to respond.

They claim to be operating in the state of Texas. - (https://sellbitcoinsfast.com/index.php)

Have I just been ripped off 2btc or can I get it back?

Appreciate any help Thanks

It is not possible, you should first ask in the forum to all those who are already experienced.

Leave feedback at least, if they do so they deserve to be debunked.

I will move this to trading discussions until some proof is show that the exchange in question did scam the member. I don't think it is fair to have it in scam accusations until proof is shown and verified.

I believe the OP. It's most probable, like most of these Bitcoin scam sites, that they simple set up a simple http redirect.

I've seen scam sites actively advertising their scam, until they are exposed and can't do anything. So they simply route traffic to a trustable site to get rid of any evidence of the site ever existing.

Telling by the Whois records, this site is not affiliated with Kraken. OP, if you were scammed by this site, I'm afraid you can't get your money back. We can't really do anything.

Take it as a learning experience and move on. When dealing with anything, especially finance, take a moment to check whether the link you're clicking on, the site you're viewing, or the person you're talking to is legitimate. Google is your friend. Search up the website and you should be able to see it:

1) Come first on Google Earth listings (The ranking on searches are partially decided by the site traffic, so if it's popular, it should be at the top.

2) Being discussed on sites like bitcointalk.org, Reddit, etc. If no one is talking about it (Positive or negative) it's quite fishy.

Well, if the exchange is dodgy I would not keep large amounts of BTC on them, they can easily exit scam and just not give a fk about anyone.

What are you saying is impossible? That an exchange could steal your coins?
