what's the address? (it probably starts with a 1)

How long did it take for you to download everything?

It usually takes many hours. It doesn't mean the bitcoin aren't there yet, it just means your computer is still downloading blocks from long ago.

In the mean time, you can check the address on an explorer like blockchain.info and see if they are there.

Have you let it fully synch yet?
This sometimes can take many days due to the size of the blockchain.

And as stated above, you can use any bitcoin blockchain explorer verify that the funds have indeed been sent to you.

Just need the transaction id - txid and can enter into a site like blockchain.info or blockexplorer.com

thanks

If you are synced and it didn't confirm on the receiving address, then you can stop the unconfirmed tx's with the command zapwallettxes. But only do this as a last resort for now.

I'm glad that you got it figured out. This is a very common problem that many new people run into. Bitcoin Core is a full wallet that requires you to download and sync the entire blockchain. This can take a long time and will show zero balance until it's finished. There are many light wallets that would be better for a beginner because they don't download the whole blockchain.

In sorry, I really don't know how long it would take. Maybe a week? It depends on more than your Internet connection. It also depends on your computer. The first part of the chain downloads a lot faster than the last part. Maybe someone else can give you a better estimate.

Do you mean you want to be able to sign a message with a bitcoin address? If so Myceylium for Android works great for that. It is what I use, and it is a light wallet. I imported my vanity address into it and use it to sign stuff occasionally.

Core allows for signed messages. If you have the HDD space, I highly suggest running a full node for core as you are actually helping the network by running it.

if you want a bitcoin wallet you can keep on your computer you should download co-pay. with co-pay you don't have to store the blockchain on your computer and it will work as soon as you install it.

Thanks a lot, I think I'll use it on my phone. I tried blockchain signed message but after creating address and importing it, syncing of its balance is too long so I cant use the signing that the help is telling.
