Growing Bitcoin Adoption and Spending your Coins

Tue Oct 25, 2016 1:19 pm

To grow the adoption of bitcoin we need people spending it as a currency and daily if possible.
I believe one of the biggest misconceptions about bitcoin at the moment is that most user just don't know where to spend it or how it can be useful for them to use.

One popular thread on bitcoin forums is "Would you like to get paid in bitcoin?" Most people who answer will say things like "yes i would but no shop i know accepts bitcoin" or "i can't pay my bills with it" so why would i want to be paid in it yet and it is a good argument, if it was true.

If you just look around on the net a bit I'm sure you will be surprised at what you can find. There is a lot of stores on the internet now accepting bitcoin as payment but if you are getting paid in bitcoin then you are still going to want to be able to use those bitcoins to pay for everyday needs such as a taxi ride, bus fair, groceries ect and that's where things like bitcoin debit cards, bitcoin bill paying services, phone credit top up, in app purchases and such come into play.
A bitcoin debit card can be very handy.

At present because a lot of utility providers don't accept bitcoins as payment so you will have to use a 3rd party, now granted i know this is not how bitcoin was designed to be used but it's a step in the right direction. If the retailers see more and more people paying with bitcoin via these 3rd parties then they are going to be more inclined to accept it as payment from their clients and in turn offer it to their employees as a salary option.
One thing that just came to mind is imagine the money saved on remittance payments back home if you could be paid in bitcoin and then just send what you want back home for a few cents in fees, if needed at the other end a bitcoin debit card could be used to withdraw the funds into the local currency if they can't spend the bitcoins on what they need.

After not much looking i have noticed that there is not much in my country that I can not buy with bitcoins, even if i do have to use a 3rd party provider.
Nowadays if I need to pay a bill then I can pay any b-pay type bill via a site called https://www.livingroomofsatoshi.com/
And a bitcoin debit card from Coinjar get used almost daily.

Please list any reasons why you can not use bitcoin for your day to day expenses and maybe we can find a way.

I think a decent number of bitcoin owners aren't spending their bitcoins because they're currently waiting for the prices to rise.

If only malls accepted bitcoins in my country that would be GREAT. I know there are bitcoin debit cards, but I would prefer if they accepted the bitcoins by maybe a QR code instead.

Anyway, what bitcoin debit card do you prefer?

What I think is that we still cannot use BTC because it is still not widely accepted by majority of countries. It still in its early years and still only a few knows about crypto currency. Here in our country I guess only a few thousand out of almost 100 M people only knew about bitcoin and I even do not know of a store here who would accept it as payment. We also need to use 3rd party to convert btc to local currency to be able to use it.
