Beware of malicious miner code!

Sun Oct 23, 2016 1:24 am

I was just looking through this board and found a couple of easy-to-spot obvious viruses/scams, which I reported. Just putting this out there.

Mining software is essential when it comes to mining. After all, how else do you mine?
The problem is that to get this software, you obviously have to download it. However this will make you a target to hackers, because they see this as an easy way to get you to download their code.

Always download a reputable mining software from a reputable source (say, github), and if possible, verify the hash. If the hash is not identical to the provided one on the website you downloaded it from, it means that the software has been tampered with. Here is a thread for verifying the hash of bitcoin core. It uses basically the same method to verify any hash, depending on the hashing method (SHA-256, MD5, etc)

If I were to recommend some mining software, here are my recommendations:

- BFGMiner: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=877081.0
- CGMiner: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0
- BitMinter: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=31163.0

If you really want a GUI, use the miner on GUIminer.org.

If you liked this post or found it helpful, don't hesitate to give me a big thumbs up below! Thanks!
