DO NOT USE A BRAINWALLET! brainwallets are very unsecure - stay away!

You can use a paper wallet, a hardware wallet or an online wallet like Xapo.com (Vault).

I would revise that statement to say "Do not use a brainwallet unless you know what you are doing."

Brainwallets can be secure if you use it in a responsible manner. It is an incredibly useful and powerful tool that should not be abandoned because of one poorly done implementation (brainwallet.org).

Brainwallet.io uses the scrypt key derivation function with additional salt inputs that makes it multiple orders of magnitude more secure than the "traditional" brainwallet. That does NOT mean that you can get away with using poor passphrases and salts. But, with enough entropy, it can be very secure.

Check out the 0.5 BTC bounty for the brainwallet with passphrase "hello world". Have a crack at it.

^I second that; brainwallets can be used well with lots of salt.

Warp Wallet forces you to salt yours and comes with some extra security enhancements: My review of WarpWallet

There is a time and a place for brain wallets.

Just don't hit your head and fuck your family over 6 ways from Sunday :).
