New UN Chief Can Tackle World Problems by Promoting Bitcoin

Wed Oct 12, 2016 10:11 pm

Colossal challenges await Antonio Guterres, the newly appointed United Nations Secretary-General. He must ensure the UN works toward eradicating poverty and achieving world peace, human development, social equity, and justice. Additionally, Guterres needs to promote freedom of Internet access, financial inclusion for billions of people, and the establishment of a technologically-driven universal currency.

I read a complaint the SEC quoted in one of their papers yesterday. It said that Bitcoin is mainly used as a ponzi and penny stock scheme.

I'd have to disagree with this as you can donate to the Redcross with Bitcoin, and many other charities. Bitcoin can and will help so many, it already has. The reality is, Bitcoin is a peer to peer digital cash system, for me to be able to send a payment to you, no matter where in the world you are. Like the wallet you carry, except with further reach. If you are using the software to build something else, which breaks the laws, that's up to you. It's the same as using the money in your wallet for nefarious purposes, LE doesn't go after your wallet or cash directly, they go after you.

As for being a penny stock scheme, no doubt there are exchanges that take advantage of being able to pump up Bitcoin. You have to go after the exchange for this, not the software, it's not the softwares fault.

I find it ironic that theymos is giving his advice to the SEC, considering he (r/bitcoin, Bitcointalk, Core, Blockstream) were the ones pumping up Bitcoin price on fake news ;)

We have around 50 truly bad actors in our industry currently and once they have been dealt with, Bitcoin will be fine, until the next time.
