Thanks! Waiting for your update!
Apologies for the delay!
Let me start by saying that I am happy with the VPS machines. They are doing what they should do, and are both powerful enough to run bitcoin classic comfortably. There is a big difference in performance - bigger than I would have expected - between the two plans.
I've set up two VPS servers, one in Plan 1 and one in Plan 2. Plan 1 is the bottom range VPS - but fast enough for a pruned node. Plan 2 has much better specs, but still has too small a harddisk to store the entire blockchain - so it, too, is pruned.
The setup was easy, with a few minor surprises during the setup process.
I used an old laptop (with a smaller screen) to sign up. It took me a little while to figure out that the Order button was hidden underneath the Contact popup.
The VPS control and the Client portal pages have a funny behavior where you don't stay logged in, sometimes even between successive page loads, even with the Keep me logged in function enabled. This is a minor nuisance - but one you have to go through to be able to get access to the VPS.
The root password did not work for SSH for some reason. But I was able to reset the root password using the client portal, and that reset password worked fine!
Once logged in (and these really are minor nuisances) installation was easy. I noticed that even the Plan 1 VPS is MUCH more powerful than the micro nodes at AWS (and cheaper, too).
There is a big difference in speed between Plan 1 and Plan 2. According to the specs, the processor should be the same. But there is a 1 GB vs 2 GB memory difference. Maybe that is the reason that Plan 2 synced the block chain twice as fast as Plan 1?
There are also big differences between the load averages (from vps control stats) between the two servers. Plan 1 is hitting 2.0 load at times (and is running only bitcoin), while Plan 2 spends most of it's time asleep.
I have not monitored these nodes for uptime or reliability yet. The charts in vps conrol have numerous 'data missing' holes in them. I am not sure what this is about - but I know the machines have not been down for at least some of those 'holes'
So far, I am happy with the machines!
