Today, September 22 2016, one of the largest Bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchanges, Poloniex, announced that it will temporarily close all operations for residents of New Hampshire starting October 6, 2016.

oh wow. that's not fair. but users of New Hampshire can always use proxy sites to avoid this. For example Tor Browser could be useful in this case.

Not sure if that's a good idea.

My suggestion would be an exchange that works for you with-out having to jump through hoops. Possibly overseas, although make sure to still pay your taxes, you don't want to get jammed up in any unnecessary problems.
