HELP NEEDED

Could some kind person please give me some help?
I am an absolute dunce when it comes to understanding Bitcoin and its nuances.
Please be patient with me if you answer my enquiry.
In July 2017, on the recommendation of a friend, I purchased 2 Bitcoins, via Multibit. I have the icon on my desktop which shows up as version 5.1
After purchase, I did absolutely nothing with my coins - not even a login - I more or less forgot abut them.
Very recently in a conversation with someone else, I was recommended to transfer my holding to a personal wallet, since Multibit was no longer supporting purchasers.
I was able to login. It recognised my password and presented me with a front page headed "Wallet Startup"
Underneath four ticks confirmed that I was loaded successfully, connected to the Bitcoin network, synchronised and told "Wallet ready to use"
Upon exit from the front page, I had the option to transfer funds, but at the head of this second page I am told that my holding is "unconfirmed"
Although I have attempted a test transfer of a very small amount, this transaction will not complete due to holding being unconfirmed.
Does anyone know where I go from here?
If anyone can help, PLEASE keep to simple language - I am not familiar with any technical terminology.

Sounds like you just need to wait until the wallet is synced up to the network. Just leave it open and eventually it'll get up to date (it may take many days) but at 2 BTC it'll be worth it. Hopefully you'll be in a position to withdraw it
